Following the incident in 2003 the Council allocated the funds from the sale of the St. Marychuch Town Hall to the refurbishment of the cliff railway.

The cars and track were replaced in the winter of 2005/6 and the control gear and doors in 2006/7.

The refurbishment programme of the cliff railway by Torbay Council is now completed. Passengers travel in the new carriages resplendent in the near as pssible original maroon and cream colours embellished with Torbay’s coat of arms on either side of the centre panels.

The refurbishment of the cliff railway commenced in perfect weather conditions sunny blue skies although the prevailing easterly wind was bitterly cold.
